2024 Lead Teachers: Summer Program EICC

In partnership with Black Rocket Productions, Eastern Iowa Community College is hiring Lead Instructors to teach youth various types of digital arts programs at EICC campus locations this summer. Topics include: YouTube Creators, Youth Inventors and Entrepreneurs, and Young Coders. Classes are taught in age groups 6-8, 8-10 and 11-14. Lead Instructors are responsible for the well-being and education of the students. A lead instructor may have either a degree/experience in education or significant experience in one of the content areas being taught. In addition to teaching responsibilities, lead instructors are also responsible for staff supervision, equipment management, enforcement of site policies, and meeting project deadlines. Required training is provided and begins in late spring. Training requires availability during some evenings and weekends. Duties of our Lead Instructors include, but are not limited to:

· Prepare adequately by reviewing and internalizing the prepared curricula for the courses to be taught.

· Prepare for and deliver multiple rotations of the Black Rocket Program (BRP) curriculum per day to groups of up to 24 campers.

· Familiarize oneself with the necessary software in order to educate and utilize in the classroom.

· Implement the curriculum as written, adapting it as needed to improve the camper experience or accommodate individual campers.

· Provide leadership, energy and camp spirit, constantly assessing group dynamics and the needs of individual campers.

· Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in and outside the classroom.

· Practice and promote positive interaction with and among students.

· Support camper check-in and check-out processes.

· Provide excellent customer service to parents by communicating with them about their camper’s experience.

· Supervise and assist with daily setup and cleanup of camp.

· Assume responsibility for the care of materials, equipment, and facilities.

· Maintain professional status through communication with students, parents, program managers, and supervisors.

· Supervise Assistant Instructors working in your program area and inspire them to become excellent instructors.

REQUIRED

· Minimum of a completed bachelor’s degree.

· Have a strong understanding of the course concepts being taught as well as any techniques and software involved.

· Enthusiasm for the subjects, and desire to help design and teach fun, innovative, multidisciplinary courses.

· Excellent communication and presentation skills.

· A specialty and passion such as programming and robotics, or experimentation and statistics.

· Camp runs from May-August; workweeks are typically 4-days a week, and15-30 hours.

· Hours are typically 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM, 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM.

PREFERRED

· Experience with technology preferred, but not required.

· Teaching Certification preferred, but not required.

· Teaching and classroom management experience is preferred, but not required.

PAY

$25 per hour
